Author’s note: If you are new to my blog the 23.xx series, I suggest reading the 23.01 through 23.09. Consider how I have misunderstood Christianity and now I am impassioned by Jesus Christ’s teaching of the “narrow gate” (Matthew 7:13-14). In Christian love, my posts are focused on flagging down your attention to the critical truth of God’s mercy manifested through the Gospel.

One thing is for certain, the immutable laws of nature has been a major topic in the news in the recent loss of the submersible “Titan” and the five souls within her who were enroute to view the wreck of the RMS Titanic.
The Titanic lies approximately 13,000 feet under the ocean’s surface.
The opinions of people in general, including many experienced submariners, are predicated on the fact that accidents deep in the ocean are extraordinarily dangerous. Whether we take the tried and true methods of submerging into the oceans or adopting methods deemed foolish, one scientific fact remains paramount: the pressures upon a vessel in a deep submerged condition can deliver instant death when things go awry.
The physical forces in the deep ocean are a force to be reckoned with.
I was listening to a Bill Whittle’s Stratosphere Lounge and he had a segment on Titan’s fatal accident. Based on some of his research, he reported some figures by comparison to the losses of the USS Thresher (SSN-593) and USS Scorpion (SSN-589). What caught my attention were his estimations regarding the implosion speed of the hull of the Scorpion.
Examination of the Scorpion, on the ocean floor at about 10,000 feet, discovered that the after hull of the submarine was telescoped into the forward hull. The implosion was so rapid that the subs propulsor and shaft were left behind.
Experienced submariners, familiar with the structure and machinery, can picture what force was required to manifest that kind of destruction. It is a force of nature we respect because we know first hand being in the constant presence of its deadly power.
Bill reported calculations that Scorpion’s hull collapsed was an approximately 2000 miles per hour. Based on that data, by my rough calculation, a 300 foot people tank would collapse to half its length in 0.00085 seconds. Scorpion was only 251 feet in total length, so the time would have been shorter.
That is much faster than the fastest recorded reaction time recorded by a human being.
The sea at depth is so unforgiving, during an implosion, you wouldn’t have time to realize you were dead. One moment, alive, you could be thinking about anything and the next moment, you are in the afterlife with a date to meet Almighty God.
The 5 men in the Titan at nearly 13,000 feet, reportedly knew that there was a warning of a some problem. Exacerbated by deficiencies in its experimental design, their efforts to come shallow to safety in such a contingency were fatally inadequate.

An important truth to understand, this is your take away, is that the Laws of the physical world are part of the order created by God and so are the spiritual Laws set forth to guide the thoughts and behavior of humankind. The spiritual laws, however, are immutable, whereas the physical laws, which we consider hard science, are subject to the will of the Creator.
From the submersible designer to the seasoned submarine veteran, the force of the ocean depths to crush a submarine in far less time than you can perceive this – word – is something we ought to fear and respect. How much more so is the living God, Creator of the heavens and earth, worthy of far greater fear, awe, and reverence.
“It is a fearful thing to fall into hands of the living God.” Hebrews 10:31.
Jesus warned, “… do not be afraid of [those things which can] kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both the body and soul in hell.” Matthew 10:28
Seek the Narrow Gate. Wide is the path to destruction.
