23.44 The Leading cause of Death

Cancer? Auto accidents? Cardiac Arrest? Urban violence? War? A pandemic? What do you thinking is the leading cause of death?

There is an answer as succinct as it is inspired by God through the Apostle Paul in the Letter to the Romans, the leading cause of death is SIN.

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 6:22-23

Notice how God did not just leave us hanging without hope in what we’ve become accustomed to as that final exit from this life.

It is true, however, that because none of us are without sin and without the saving grace of God, we otherwise work very hard, often extremely hard, for our “wages.”

For something that seems so difficult for so many people to accept, the simplicity emphasizes the beauty of God’s grace and gift to all who accept it. For all of you who wish you didn’t have to work for the greatest gift ever, this is it, the only one: the sacrifice of God’s Son on the Cross for your sins.

Working for and being uncertain about salvation is man’s way because of incomplete truth or falsehoods. Working for salvation is the way of the world and is the requirement of all religion produced in the world. The way of the world is to leave as many people with uncertainty in their salvation and to top it off, making them work for it.

In John 6:29, Jesus said it Himself, God does the work and you need to do this to be saved:

“This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”

To be saved you do not need to become a Bible scholar, have to climb any mountains, or slay any dragons to earn your way. The Way is the faith that saves which includes repentance.

From Mark 1:15, Jesus said:

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

To have a contrite heart (being sorry to God for your sin), and a decided willingness to start anew to begin turning away from sin (that is repentance) and to believe in Jesus Christ and His substitutionary death for your sins on the Cross means you do not need to struggle any further to achieve eternal salvation.
