24.48 I Told You…

There are times when you ignore the warning and then it happens. What happens? Just what you were told.

“I told you” rings in your mind as you ponder why you thought otherwise.

With a supernatural thread that spans 1600 years, the Bible offers several prophetic warnings intended to alert and call people to faith in God and through His Son Jesus Christ.

There are many people who simply turn their heads and refuse to see the evidence of God’s truths and prophecies.

On the other hand, there are those who will eventually see, often dimly at first, but then more clearly.

For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. – 1 Corinthians 13:12

Find the “I told you” statements in the following passages.

A healed man witnesses to religious scoffers

A man who well known being blind since birth became fully healed by Jesus responds to religious cynics who would not believe.

26 Then they said to him again, “What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?”

27 He answered them, “I told you already, and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become His disciples?”

28 Then they reviled him and said, “You are His disciple, but we are Moses’ disciples. – John 9:26-28

Signs of the Son of God’s work ignored

Jesus responds to religious unbelievers whose intent is only to trap and persecute. They will not believe though the evidence is plain. The intent of their questions is insincere.

24 Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, “How long do You keep us in doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.”

25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me. 26 But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. – John 10:24-26

Prophetic Warnings offered

Jesus spoke about the time to come when His disciples must face persecution after He bodily departs from their presence. He taught them even before that could comprehend the prophetic nature of His teachings, knowing they would ultimately understand looking back.

And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me. But these things I have told you, that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them.

“And these things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you. – John 16:3-5

Justice will be delivered

The Apostle Paul writes about the world during the “last days”, a period beyond the era of God’s common grace and before the return of Christ. There will be a time when the restraining hand of God will not restrain evil, giving rise to the rise of the anti-Christ. There will be terror in the world that It has never seen or will see again. God’s glory will be revealed as He destroys the lawless deceiver (who will have deceived many, I pray not you).

2 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. – 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12

Will you respond in faithful acceptance and repentance to the grace of Jesus Christ?

Humans were created with an eternal soul. All people, living or dead, all will know the truth and majesty of the Lord Jesus Christ upon His triumphant return. Desiring reconciliation, God has sought to give us warning and a way to avoid the wrath of justice from His holy and righteous self.

Through faith in Christ’s redemptive work, defeating death, God provides His merciful solution allowing all who are and will be called to avoid His just punishment.

Will you proclaim Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?

Christ will be victorious

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. – Philippians 2:9-11
