25.02 God’s Job Posting

Hiring managers are sometimes worried that a candidate can’t learn a critical skill fast enough and will not take a chance on some candidates because of apparent risks. Relevant experience is what they would like, desiring members with known skills and proven qualities.

The problem is, often times, the unquantifiable qualities factor in significantly higher than the ones that are easily quantifiable. Are people humble enough to admit they made a mistake? Are they honest enough about their dealings with others? Can they discuss difficult issues without throwing a fit? Can they be trusted to work alone?

There can be risk in difficult questions that interviewers are hesitant to ask because they tend to be personal and there are expectations for self-disclosure. We live in a work environment in a litigious world that has phobia to driving at the truth, especially regarding weaknesses in character.

If we were to use the analogy of God’s entrance exam for Kingdom Recruiting, God makes it really quite easy with a very low bar, in fact, your work and your history don’t even matter, your character means even less. Quite frankly, a rotten stinking sinner deserving only to an eternity in hell is a prime candidate (yeh, not a very popular message despite the stark truth of it).

If you have a knack for self-righteous, well, watch out, there’s a flaming hail storm from heaven headed your way unless you have a change of attitude.

The only thing that matters is your attitude towards the work the God has already done.

Your attitude towards God’s Son, Jesus Christ dying for your sins on a cross – your acceptance of that eternity securing work means everything.

As a matter of fact, your work means nothing, that is, your work in effort to qualify your entry into God’s kingdom.

That’s hard for most people to accept and believe.

You see, God already knows that you could never take any course, achieve any milestone that could make you innocent from the sinner that you have always been. God the Father knows that and in His love and mercy, He sent His Son to die for you. That’s how much He longs to restore the relationship with you, that no one may perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16b).

Now, how does one change? Part of it is simply knowing how God is trying to call you to bring you in this his company. He’s got a position open for you. He’s calling you, will you answer?

Despite the off-the-scales magnanimity of the gift of grace, many cannot “come to faith” and would rather maintain reliance on human effort. People will take stake in the most crucial decision in their life, trusting an alternate and under-evidenced understanding of the truth.

Truth matters, it matters in the realm of justice and judgment. Judgment matters when it comes to our fallen sinful nature and the righteous and holy judge who must exercise judgment upon all who sin.

Yet there is this hope that has been preserved throughout the Bible, in the consistent inspired messages contained in God’s Word, one of eternal hope and one that relies, not on the whimseys of man, but on the trustworthiness of the promises of a righteous, holy, just and faithful God.
