25.05 What about Epstein Island?

Note about the recent aircraft tragedies: It is troubling every time there is an innocent loss of life as in the recent aircraft disasters. There is one truth for certain, we cannot avoid suffering, and yet amidst suffering we can experience the consolation and peace that come from God.

The other truth that is for certain is our souls are eternal. Death in this life is merely a doorway to eternity. Please seek the understand the message delivered by God for all people, no matter which faith, philosophy, religion, nation, tribe or language.

Tragic events are a solemn and stark reminders that human life is destined to end, sometimes unexpectedly. I exhort you to be prepared for the sake of your eternal soul. Please consider the message of God’s saving grace through His Son Jesus Christ.

Now onto this week’s article, as we look at manifestations of sexual depravity.

Why are people so nuts over an island known for child sex? It would be a wonder if Epstein Island were the only one like it. In reality, there are several islands or places like this, like those characterized in the movie, “Sound of Freedom.”

What’s a sad commentary is that people can be amused and complacent rather than filled with indignation when children are being abused. So many people, allegedly “famous” people are said to have gone to, if not frequented, a place where they secretly live out their depraved sexual fantasies.

Sexual immorality goes back a very long way in human history. No wonder this parallels how God, who is holy and righteous, is ignored or hated. Depraved behavior may develop when the lesser sins are given a pass, accepted as innocent.

To help the world better grasp the standard by which a holy and righteous God sets his moral law, Jesus let it be known that we are all suspect and guilty of adultery and even murder, as was part of His message in the most consequential sermon in history. Here are just small excerpts which explain of how we are all guilty of sin.

“You have heard that the ancients were told, ‘You shall not murder’ and ‘Whoever murders shall be guilty before the court.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court…” – Matthew 5:21-22

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; 28 but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. – Matthew 5:27-28

Sin is sin. Sin causes separation between us and God.

You may have convinced yourself that you are “good”. Jesus went out of His way, became a man so that eye-witnesses could document His many teachings to help correct human misperceptions of God and to alert humanity of its propensity to create a god of their own making.

People suffer from a disease called self-righteousness, a fatal condition, if left untreated, where you trust your own self-appeasing standard of goodness. That sin is also characterized as idolatry and a failure to satisfy the Bible’s First and Second Commandments.

Going to an island, presumably to conduct immoral acts against children out of the public eye is just evil on a rich person’s scale. But this is merely on a linear scale on which we all take a wobbly stand on.

We are all sinners capable of the most depraved acts if the circumstances are heaved upon us, peer pressure, or if we have a seared conscience. Yet the wrath of God is not reserved for the extremist.

What is pornography? The root of it comes from the same industry that caters to sinners with expensive tastes who trek off to out of the way islands where their shameless desires are met. Pornography is much like a gateway drug that many people experience, often beginning at a young age. Its influence can form a foundation of sinful obsession and bondage for a lifetime.

Society is filled with the sexually charged images that promote fornication and acts of perversion. Its effects are exacerbated by the continued attacks on parenthood and the devaluing of marriage and the family. Furthermore, with the ongoing world war on God’s moral laws, society finds itself, not surprisingly, a factory of sex trafficking, particularly of women and children.

It doesn’t require much imagination to connect dots between the industry that relies on human trafficking and the efforts at institutional levels to destroy God’s cornerstones of society, the sanctity of Marriage, Biblical man and womanhood, the family, and a Godly view of sex.

From the Letter to the Ephesians, Paul write in exhortation about attitudes towards sexual immorality and the seeking to become more Christ-like, which is the goal of every believer as we both struggle with old ways while embracing the new:

Walk in Love

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them.

Walk in Light

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. 14 Therefore He says:

“Awake, you who sleep,
Arise from the dead,
And Christ will give you light.”
– Ephesians 5:1-15 (NKJV)

Sex and Idolatry in Religion

The abuse of children goes back throughout human history. The ancient kingdoms who were judged by God had sexually charged practices of temple prostitution, orgies, and child sacrifice as part of their religious rituals. It was these and other abominable practices that God judged many peoples. God used the Israelites to execute judgment these people and conquer their lands as part of the Abrahamic Covenant.

Israel itself, despite their own fallen nature and aptitude to sin, was and is a chosen people by God. They were set apart in many ways, including its prohibition of children sacrifice and the sanctification of a lifelong commitment of Marriage and the sexual relationship, between one man and one woman.

Despite serving as an example of being set apart for God’ purposes, from the Israelites we learn many realities of humanity and one of the most salient is that God’s moral law saves no one. The Law plays a critical role in convicting humanity of its unGodliness, including and especially the Israelites. However, it was never God’s plan to just leave us with the Law that convicts us of sin that leads to death. God, as He describes in extreme detail in the Bible, also explains God’s solution to overcome death.

Is All Extra-Marital Sex Sinful?

We live in a promiscuous sex-obsessed culture. From a culture of “free” love punctuated with pornography, all which was made palatable through the unceasing experimentation displayed in popular movies, media, and TV. The effect is widespread in what has become social norm.

On an extreme, there is a current trend of young people tracking their “body” counts like some sort of degenerate prize fighting contest, or the likes of tallying dead men represented by hashmarks on the pistol grip of a wild-west outlaw. Sex, a gift from God, becomes meaningless when it is abused.

On the more prevalent side, there are the encounters that tend to establish some sentimental and perceived positive experience, though one is oft blinded to the soul and psychologically damaging aspects of extra marital sex. While there may be an innocence to the moments of mutually shared vulnerability between unmarried people, God’s purpose for sex and the committed relationship that sex was designed for reveals the greater blessing, the greater good, and complements a relationship of sacrificial love.

Popular media fails radically and tragically to portray God honoring love when it is easier to cater to people’s base, albeit worldly and sinful, desires.

God’s Grace

What’s amazing about God’s grace is, even if you happen to be addicted to pornography and have been led by it to new lows, you can repent. You too can find peace in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, because even for your sin, He died for you, so that you may be saved and turn away from sins bondage.

Remember, Jesus said in response to a religious hypocrite, “… I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” – Matthew 9:13

Don’t be fooled. There is none righteous but God and the wages of sin is death.

More to the point of the Gospel, For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 6:23

While we were yet an enemies of God, Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself and died an agonizing death for people just like us. The wrath we deserve from God, every bit of it, was taken by Jesus as He, who was righteous and deserved no punishment, was punished on the cross for those who will believe and trust in Jesus Christ.

You can break the chains of sexual immorality on your life because Jesus took the punishment for you AND He defeated death. When He was resurrected, He secured that path to eternal life for those who will believe and trust in Him.

Choose to repent from sin and accept and trust Jesus Christ and your Savior and Lord.
