In order to submerge a submarine, it is necessary to “destroy” the state of positive buoyancy.
From a layman’s point of view, that means, taking off your floatation vest, that device which is something that you normally think is necessary to save your life.

When the seas are rough, there’s no better place to be than going deep. That is, if you are aboard a submarine.
The way submarines are able to submerge and stay submerged with only minor adjustments is the use of ballast tanks. These huge tanks located outside of the pressure hull are filled with air while on the surface and filled with water when submerged. The images and video shows air escaping through controllable vents on the top of the submarine to allow ocean water to flow into them freely from the bottom. This changes the buoyant forces that when transiting on the surface, keeps the sub securely on the surface.

In World War II, before the advent of nuclear power, submarines spent most of their time running on air breathing diesel-electric power while on the surface. A common circumstance that called for immediately diving was when an airplane (or any surface or air contact) was spotted over the horizon. The submarine would trade the ability for speed, fresh air and recharging batteries for the security of being hidden from the enemy. Ironically, even friendly planes were a real danger as several U.S. submarines were attacked being suspected of being the enemy by over-enthusiastic allied pilots.
The spiritual relationship in regards to the need to dive has to do with the buoyancy we create that keeps us on the surface, unwilling to “go deep” where one is designed to function by God’s design. Even if we encounter a threat, we are not naturally compelled to “go deep.”

In other words, like a submarine in a world of surface ships, we need to destroy the very notion of remaining on the safety of the surface and its ready supply of air, in order to see how God desires us live our lives. Like a submarine is designed to operate effectively in the 3 dimensional realm under the surface, God’s people need to cast away the principles of the world for God’s eternal wisdom and truth.
It is often the case, being able to give up our trust in worldly security often requires those false securities to utterly fail in order to be unblinded by them.

People are not likely to just give up all that provides them security, even false security. Many of our ideas may have been learned from sources thought to be trustworthy.These beliefs may have served a person for their whole lives, or a major portion of, because those objects of faith never been tested to their breaking points. Unfortunately for many people, the day of testing will be the Day of Judgment.
Everything is better for those who break with the way of the world to enter the realm of being obedient to God’s words. Through the enlightenment offered by the Holy Spirit, what didn’t make sense in the past begins to make a lot of sense. Conducting ones life in accordance to God’s will brings peace and understanding when the world offers deceptive ideas leading to idolatry and self-righteousness.
This is a good transition to another one of Paul’s great illustrative writing where he explains aspects of the un-worldliness that Christ exhibited and that followers of Christ take pains to strive towards in their life long transformations.
ROMANS 12
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Serve God with Spiritual Gifts
3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. 4 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, beingmany, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7 or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8 he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
Behave Like a Christian
9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. 10 Bekindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; 11 not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; 13 distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.
17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 Therefore
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
If he is thirsty, give him a drink;
For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
– Romans 12 (NKJV)
